For Brendan’s 581 Special Topics class we’re (first year MFAs) taking over the display cases in Neuberger Hall to showcase things that we’ve developed a relationship with in our research. Objects, experiments, and other materials provide insight to an unfinished piece.
Mine consists of typographic ink studies of inspiring people and things, a lettering book, color study, collage, and other miscellaneous studio items. There’s a pointer to help find the obvious, a Michael Jordan & Mars Blackmon stay in school card for motivation, a sculpy experiment, and a flexing lips character. The book featured is “Tactile: High Touch Visuals” which features progressive design projects that deal with the perception of space.
I’ve also rearranged my studio in preparation for installation work and organized my recent book additions. I’m on the hunt for materials to utilize for creating environments, but in the meantime I started experimenting with ink & watercolor on a small scale. I feel that I need to be making more piles of (lowercase) art in order to move closer to more meaningful work.
